Mr. Brown was born in Washington, D.C., on November 14, 1959. He has been admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia (1990), before the District of Columbia Court of Appeals (1990), before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (1992), and before the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia (2004). Mr. Brown holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering from Virginia Tech (Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University) (1984) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in German (1985), and a Juris Doctor degree from the George Washington University School of Law (1990). As well as being fluent in both German and Dutch, Mr. Brown was a Patent Examiner in Group 330 of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (1985-1987).

Mr. Brown is a member (a Master) of the Giles S. Rich American Inn of Court in Washington, D.C. (the first Inn of Court directed solely to intellectual property law), the District of Columbia Bar, the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), the International Trademark Association (INTA) and has had engineering design and testing experience at International Harvester (now Navistar).
